"The opportunities available to chemistry students at the Mount allow me to use cutting-edge technology in biochemical research as well as work one-on-one with my professors at the Mount." Loran Carroll '08
A major in chemistry is designed to provide students with professional competency in chemistry supported by courses in mathematics, physics and biology. In addition to the acquisition of a basic knowledge of science, students will develop skills in critical thinking, laboratory techniques, interpretation of observations, and clear expression of ideas.
Undergraduate research is an integral part of the educational program. Students seeking entrance into the Chemistry, Biological Chemistry or Chemistry/Mathematics programs should have three years of college preparatory high school mathematics including functions. Formal entrance into the programs is on the successful completion of one entrance unit in chemistry or successful completion of a placement test.
Chemistry is a great choice for a major if you are interested in a health profession. Examples of health professions include dentistry, pharmacy, physician's assistant, optometry, and medical technology. See more choices at Pre-Professional Studies.
